The Liberty Recruitment team is excited to announce that our good friend Perry Timms has agreed to deliver our November HR Leaders forum on 19th November 2024. As always, it will take place via Zoom and will be asking the question – “The Skills-Based Organisation: Are we really shifting away from that timeless entity of the Job?”
Perry goes on to explain: We often introduce ourselves by the title of our job. Of course, we recruit for them, progress to different versions of them, and in some ways, we become them and are defined by the concept of a Job.
Perhaps, until now.
We are starting to see, hear and experience something emerging called Skills-Based. In hiring and selection, as well as in a wider organisational context. Like an “extreme” version of work no longer contained within the vessel of a job. We’ve already seen the Gig Economy and contingent worker models attract a lot of interest (mostly negative), and yet, they have now become an emergent but recognisable and additional aspect of organisation design and operating models. And is there more to come? Is this the first wave of the deconstruct of jobs into something else? Are jobs still valid when it appears we’re heading into an AI and Automation Era?
In this virtual session, 2022’s No. 1 Most Influential HR Thinker, author, speaker, Guest Professor and enterprise founder, Perry Timms, will share his research and synthesis to help us understand:
- What do we mean by Skills-Based, and what is this phenomenon likely to mean to us (as People Professionals) now and in the mid and longer-term future?
- How is the concept of Skills-Based Organisations being developed and delivered now? and
- Will Skills-Based Organisations be a truly symbolic and significant shift in people’s relationships with organisations as employers and themselves as workers?
It will be like a glimpse into the possibilities of the future, maybe unnerving, exciting, and all in between. In whatever way Skills-Based Organisations might shape up, what’s clear is that there is a skills deficit in Planet Earth PLC. The way to overcome that may be to retire the concept of a job in favour of something more dynamic, fulfilling, and impactful.
